Description
Benjamin Butler Letter Signed, "Benj. F. Butler". One page with docketing on the verso, 7.75" x 9.5", October 31, 1864, Headquarters, Department of Virginia and North Carolina [Fort Monroe, Virginia]. The verso is docketed with a steel stamp dated November 1, 1864. The stamp resulted in a light tear through the signature. Slight weakness and soiling at folds, else very good.More Information:
The holographic letter grants a twelve-day leave of absence to Second Lieutenant E. C. Rockwell of the 3rd New York Volunteers. Butler signed as Major General Commanding the Department of Virginia and North Carolina.
