Description
Warren Harding Presidential Coast Guard Appointment Signed "Warren G. Harding". One partly printed page, 20" x 16", March 5, 1923, "City of Washington", appointing Norman B. Hall "Lieutenant Commander (Engineering)". The appointment reads in part: "Know ye, That reposing special trust and confidence in the patriotism, valor, integrity and abilities of Norman B. Hall I have Nominated, and by and with the advice and consent of the Senate do Appoint him Lieutenant Commander (Engineering) in the Coast Guard of the United States." In 1915, Norman B. Hall helped establish the earliest use of aviation in the U.S. Coast Guard. Hall, along with two other Coast Guard officers, experimented with using air patrol in searches for crippled maritime vessels along the Atlantic coast. The success of the experiment ushered in the use of aviation in the Coast Guard. President Harding's large signature sits at the bottom right of the document and is just slightly faded. With patriotic vignette and affixed with golden seal. No folds. Fine.Auction Info
