Description

George Washington Three Language Ship's Papers Signed "Go: Washington." One partially printed page, 12.75" x 15.75", Boston, December 4, 1794. Issued in English, French, and Dutch to "Abijah Luce as master or commander of the Schooner called Lucy of the burthen of Sixty eight tons or thereabouts...bound for Hispaniola and laden with Boards beef butter fish four pork lard oil & rum..." Countersigned by Edmund Randolph as secretary of state and Benjamin Lincoln as collector of the Port of Boston. Blind embossed seal of the United States at center left. Folds are very weak and separating throughout with some loss of paper and text, but not affecting the signatures, which remain bold and very bright. Toned throughout, especially along the folds, which also show some light staining. Several small holes hear the seal at left.
