Ulysses S. Grant Autograph Letter Signed "U. S. Grant." One page, 7.75" x 9.75", Cairo [Illinois], December 20, 1861, to Captain R. B. Hatch, in full: "The bearer C. E. Atkinson complains of his being detained here with nothing to do waiting for a settlement with your department if such is the case give him a settlement and let him go." Docketed on the verso. With a 6" x 8" engraved portrait of Grant. Separation of the folds at the edges which show light mat burning.
