Description

Thomas Jefferson Land Grant Signed. One partially-printed page, 12" x 15", Washington, April 5, 1808, granting to John Watts, assignee of "Ferdinand Oneal (a Captain of Cavalry for three years)" who served in the "Virginia Line on Continental Establishment, and in pursuance of an Act of Congress of the United States . . . a certain tract of land, containing Nine Hundred and ninety two acres situate between the Little Miami and Sciota Rivers." Countersigned by James Madison as secretary of state and on the verso by Henry Dearborn as secretary of war. Blind embossed paper seal affixed at left; docketed on the verso. Jefferson's signature is faded, but still wholly legible. Folds. Scattered spots of light foxing. Lightly stained in places at the upper edge.
