Description

Rare Pope Alexander VIII Brevis Signed by Future Pope Clement XI, one page with docketing, 15.75" x 8", probably the Vatican, October 19, 1689. Untranslated from the Latin, very fine condition. Quite rare given Alexander's brief reign lasting under two years. Born Pietro Vito Ottoboni (1610-1691), Pope Alexander VIII did not assume the papacy until age eighty. The signature of Cardinal Giovanni Francesco Albani is located at the lower right of the front of this brevis. Cardinal Albani would be elevated to the papacy in 1700, becoming Pope Clement XI.
