Description

Stephen Girard Fine Financial Letter Letter Signed, 1 page, 7.5" by 10", Philadelphia, October 3, 1826. To John Gadsen, Esq., in Charleston. Worn, and by way of repair affixed to a slightly larger page, yet boldly penned and clearly signed: good overall. Here the most successful private banker in American history moves money around: "At the request of Achilles Murante of Tallahassee, Florida, I here enclose the draft of Mr. Joseph Roberts, Cashier of SG's bank to your order No. 77 of this date on the cashier of the bank of South Carolina for two hundred dollars... That remittance should have been made to you long ago, but being at that time and since very busy, I was impressed with the idea, until yesterday that it had been attended to." From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection. Accompanied by LOA from PSA/DNA.
