Description
Lengthy Civil War Autograph Letter Signed by Ezra Keyser. 16pp., 8vo (4.75" x 7.5"), penned on Confederate flag letterhead, Knoxville, East Tennessee, September 7, 1861. Keyser, a member of the 1st Texas Regiment of Volunteers, C.S. Infantry, writes to his wife, family and friends, sending news "from the Texas troops." He writes of a locomotive collision near Knoxville and tells of the Texas soldiers' reception in Knoxville: "This is as great an abolition hole as Boston, Mass...the good citizens informed us they were really in the majority and talked loud and long and impudent for Lincoln & the Union. This the Texas boys could not stand." He then goes into great detail about the well being of friends and relatives in the service with him. Letter is beautifully penned. Light age toning, but very fine overall. Enigmatic note written on the inside of the torn-away envelope flap reads: "& went to get my Pistol / and he left it at the / Smith's. I don't believe it." Accompanied by the original transmittal envelope bearing decorative, display-worthy script. Beautiful!Auction Info
