Description

Apollo 15: Group of Twenty-Five Vintage Color Transparencies Directly from the Collection of NASA Photo Expert J. L. Pickering. A set of twenty five vintage 4" x 5" color transparencies documenting Apollo 15, the fourth lunar landing mission and the first to deploy the Lunar Roving Vehicle, flown by David Scott, James Irwin, and Alfred Worden in July-August 1971. Among the images are: Astronauts training with the Lunar Rover and geology equipment prior to flight; Saturn V launch sequences, including dramatic liftoff images from multiple vantage points; Post-mission recovery photos, with astronauts aboard the USS Okinawa, and many others. Apollo 15 marked the beginning of NASA's "J-missions," with extended lunar stays, extensive science, and the introduction of the Lunar Rover. These photographs capture the full breadth of the mission, to safe return. A desirable and expansive collection representing one of the most scientifically significant Apollo missions. Very fine.
