Description

Gemini: Rare Backup Crew-Signed Covers for Gemini 3 (Schirra & Stafford), Gemini 4 (Lovell & Borman), and Gemini 8 (Conrad & Gordon). Three separate philatelic covers, as follows.
Gemini 3: A philatelic plain cover bearing a 5¢ "Battle Of New Orleans" stamp beautifully hand-canceled at Cape Canaveral on March 23. 1965 (launch date). GT-3 flight information and names are neatly typed and the blue ink signatures are at the bottom: "W M Schirra" and "Tom Stafford". Unaddressed. Excellent.
Gemini 4: A philatelic plain cover bearing a 8¢ "Robert Goddard" stamp hand-canceled at Cape Canaveral on June 3. 1965 (launch date). GT-4 flight information and names are neatly typed and there is a rubber-stamped capsule cachet. Signatures are in bold black felt tip: "James Lovell" and "Frank Borman". Unaddressed. Barely noticeable glue bleedthrough, very fine.
Gemini 8: A philatelic plain cover featuring a desirable NASA Kennedy Space Center cachet and bearing a 5¢ "Flag" stamp perfectly hand-canceled at Kennedy Space Center on March 16, 1966 (launch date). GT-8 crew names are neatly typed and the black felt tip signatures are placed above: "Charles Conrad Jr." and "R. F. Gordon Jr". Unaddressed. Light glue bleedthrough, very fine.
As was common practice, each of these backup crews would fly on the third mission following, e.g. Gemini 6A, 7, & 11. From the Family Collection of Jacques Bracke.
