Description
1/2 Plate Tintype of a Group of 2nd New York Artillery Soldiers Taken Outdoors. This clear, sharp tintype depicts a group of soldiers identified by a tag on the back as being from Company "H" of the 2nd New York Artillery Regiment in various poses in an outdoors setting. It is highly likely that this image was taken while the 2nd New York Artillery was assigned to the defense of Washington, D.C. In the distant background, there appears to be a fort or defense works. The image bears some surface cracks that do not affect the central image, but it is in overall very good condition, housed in the lower portion of a leather case, with gilt brass mat and frame.Auction Info
