Description
Four Screw Colt M1860 .44 Caliber Percussion Army Revolver and Equipment Set, with verbal ID to Pvt. H. K. Sharp, Co. D, 3rd Tennessee Cavalry, C.S.A.. The gun, #15332 matching, displays a dark untouched patina with a coat of very light pitting on most surfaces. The cylinder scene is approximately 70% visible, excellent markings. The wedge screw is probably a correct replacement and a small piece of the loading lever is broken off above the catch. The frame screws are configured to accept the shoulder stock. Excellent bore, mechanically fine, very tight, mainspring just a bit weak. The grips are excellent and display a mother of pearl heart inlay on both sides and the undersides of the grips are overlayed with bone panels which have attained an appealing mellow patina, the left side with a couple of chips. The waist belt is typical of civilian belts adapted for Confederate use. 1¼" wide with embossed geometric and cross hatched decoration. 5/8" wide closure tab with 1" wide single tine horseshoe shaped iron buckle. Scarce form/size carbine cartridge box with tool pouch, sling buckles and two belt loops. The leather is all in very good untouched plyable condition with just some minor scattered flaking. Also included are three pieces of original Confederate currency with a red ink stamp on the verso from the 25th Confederate Reunion in Richmond, Va. in June 1915, where it was obviously acquired by Sharp. The 3rd Tenn. Cav. served in various configurations, primarily in the western theater, through most of the war. Nice grouping with interesting ID.Auction Info
