Description

American Eaglehead Officer's Saber C. 1820. 27 1/2" curved blade now generally smooth and gray with engraved decoration of floral and military motifs but no gilt or blue remaining. Blade with single narrow deep fuller along the back edge. One tiny nick and a few small areas of salt and peppering. Guard with five balls on the knucklebow and disc quillon, the knucklebow very slightly bent. There is an old repair where the knucklebow joins the cross guard. Large eaglehead with fluted carved bone grip with nice patina and one large chip on the back side, round faced 3/8" ferrule at the base. Scabbard is sound with finish crackling but minimal flaking. Retains the top two mounts , each with incised line decoration and carrying ring. The top mount originally carried a frog stud which is now missing . Missing the lower mount and possibly the bottom 1" of the leather scabbard.
