Description

U.S. M1855 Iron Mounted Two Band .58 Caliber Percussion Rifle, Harpers Ferry, 1861. Very likely a gun that saw Confederate use, having been captured along with the armory in 1861. All metal with dark patina, scattered light pitting, somewhat heavier at muzzle, breech, and buttplate. Mechanically fine, fair bore. Wood very good with dark untouched patina, burned area behind and forward of the bolster from heavy use, and some roughness on the reverse buttstock near the butt plate, also small chips in front of the lock and by the upper lock bolt. Long range blade of the rear sight missing, else complete and original in every respect. Good, honest representative example of this very scarce U.S. military longarm with strong Confederate association.
