Description

Neil Armstrong's "Carrier Air Group Five" Flight Jacket Patch Originally from His Personal Collection. A large 5.75" diameter patch, theater-made in Japan, embroidered in silk and bullion threads. It does not appear to have ever been sewn to his jacket so it was likely brought (or sent) home as a souvenir of his participation with this Air Group during the Korean War. CVG-5 was the first air group to enter the Korean War and served eighteen months total in the combat zone aboard the USS Essex (CV9) and USS Valley Forge (CVA45). Armstrong was the youngest officer of the all-jet VF-51 "Screaming Eagles" squadron and flew F9F Panthers. A patch that is rare and collectible in its own right and so much more so as having belonged to a young Neil Armstrong. Very fine.

This lot will be accompanied by a signed COA from Neil Armstrong's brother, Dean.
