Description

C. 1855 Bedford County Full Stock Percussion Rifle by Charles Baker. 42 1/2" full octagonal .44 caliber smoothbore barrel. Signed in script C. F. Baker. Front and rear dovetailed sights, with decorative engraving at the rear sight. Lock is stamped G. Goulcher with engraved Bedford County hammer. All brass furniture, typical of the school and made without patchbox. Rather plain maple stock that was likely refinished at some point. There are a couple of small well done old repairs, minor. Saddle like cheekpiece and some rudimentary incise carving including a fish, a bird and open scroll work. Original striped wooden ramrod. Good representative Bedford county gun by a very scarce maker.
