Description

ANCIENT NEAR EAST. Middle-Late Bronze Age, circa 1800-1200 BCE. Luristan bronze pickaxe. This potent-looking weapon is 8.25 inches (20 cm) long, with has a reinforced cutaway socket, and a long, narrow head. Green patina with light earthen overlay, intact and custom mounted on a Lucite stand. Cf. Ancient Persian Bronzes in the Adam Collection by P.R.S. Moorey (Ashmolean Museum, 1974), page 45, plate 11 for an identical example.
