More Information:

"Thank you very much for your letter of almost a year ago, and for your interest in the space program. I am very sorry to be so late in my reply. I am enclosing a picture taken of me with Astronauts Bob Crippen and Bruce McCandless during an evaluation of the hand held maneuvering unit. - It is a small jet-gun which will be used by the Skylab Astronauts to move around inside the Skylab workshop. I am looking forward to Skylab, especially to the second and third visits to Skylab when the crews will be staying for 56 days. The physiological effects of such a long stay in weightlessness are still pretty much unknown. Of course the backbone of our entire future in space is the recently approved Space Shuttle. The Shuttle will be used to launch and recover unmanned satellites, and as a delivery vehicle for Darts of modular space stations, which in turn might be used as launch platforms toward the planets. In short, given a willing U.S. Congress, 1972 will see the foundation laid for the space programs of the 70's and 80's."
