Mercury: California State Senate Resolution Congratulating Astronaut Leroy Gordon Cooper on His Historic Faith 7 Mission. An original framed and matted California State Senate Resolution No. 178, adopted May 17, 1963, formally congratulating Major Leroy Gordon Cooper for his successful Faith 7 orbital flight, the sixth and final crewed mission of NASA's Project Mercury. Framed to an overall 18" x 24", the resolution opens with a list of 40 state senators, followed by several "Whereas" clauses recounting Cooper's May 15-16, 1963 22-orbit flight aboard Faith 7, during which he traveled more than 575,000 miles in 34 hours and 20 minutes. A rare period document celebrating one of Project Mercury's defining achievements. Some wear to frame, overall very fine.Auction Info
