Description
Cased Pair of English Flintlock Dueling Pistols by Williams & Powell, Liverpool. .54 caliber, 10 1/2-inch octagonal barrels with dovetailed front sights and open rear sights. Breeches with four inlaid gold bands and touchhole bushings. Steel under-ribs. Beautiful scroll-engraved cocks, tangs and lockplates with legend: Williams & Powell. Engraved screws. Ship's prow pans and roller frizzens. Sliding safeties. Handsome burl walnut stocks with silver wedge escutcheons and vacant circular wrist escutcheons. Stocks with finely checkered grips, silver fore-end caps, engraved steel furniture and spurred triggerguards. Dark hardwood ramrods with brass caps. Both guns contained in a green velvet-lined french-style partitioned burlwood case together with large copper bag-shaped powder flask; single-cavity ball mold with integral sprue nippers; ebony wood mallet; brass oiler; cleaning brushes; 3 ebony wood rammers or cleaning rods; lead ball and flint supply. Lid with oval brass escutcheon with monogram JCD. Brass re-enforcement corners. Key portal in front, no key present. Thomas Williams & Samuel Powell, Liverpool, Lancs/GB, 1833-70. 1833 , 10 Pool Lane, 1834-36, 13 South Castle Street.Condition: Guns. Good. Barrels with grey brown age patina and scattered light pitting. One example with repair to roller frizzen [old roller and spring present in case]. Stocks with light wear and minor blemishes.
