Description

Ex. Gene Cernan

Apollo 17 Flown Command Module "Nominal SIVB (Saturn V Third Stage) TLI 0 (Translunar Injection)" Cue Card Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander Gene Cernan, Signed and Certified. A 2.75 x 4.25" heavyweight printed card, dated November 15, 1972, for a Dec 6 launch, with three pieces of Velcro on the verso as well as the certification: "Flown to lunar orbit aboard the Apollo 17 CM 'America'" signed in black ink: "Gene Cernan". The TLI is the third stage's second burn, the one that takes the Apollo craft out of earth orbit and places it on its path to the moon. This card shows data that would appear on the DSKY for the Apollo Guidance Computer. Columns include: DET (digital event timer); O (flight path angle); Ψ; VI (velocity indicator); H (rate of altitude change); and H (current altitude). During a normal burn, the data on this card would be used. This was the translunar injection that sent the last (to date) manned spacecraft hurtling toward the moon. Very fine. From the collection of Steve Jurvetson.
