Description
Ex. Gene Cernan
"Suit Integrity Check" and "Cabin Depress"
Apollo 17 Lunar Module Flown "Lunar Surface Checklist"
Double-Sided Page Originally from the Personal Collection of
Mission Commander Gene Cernan, Certified and Signed. Printed
NASA checklist pages 6-11 & 6-12, 5.5" x 8", 3-hole punched. Boldly
signed on page 6-12 in blue felt tip: "Lunar Flown Aboard
Challenger/ Gene Cernan". A remarkable pair of sequential pages
from this checklist detailing critical procedures for suit
integrity verification and cabin depressurization prior to lunar
extravehicular activity (EVA). These pages outline step-by-step
instructions followed by CDR Cernan and LMP Harrison Schmitt during
preparation for their historic moonwalks on December 11-14, 1972,
the final human EVAs on the lunar surface to date. Excellent. The first page, dated August 31, 1972, titled "Suit Integrity Check," details the procedure to pressurize, test, and verify the operational integrity of each astronaut's pressure suit and life-support systems prior to egress. The second, dated November 7, 1972, titled "Cabin Depress," provides the precise depressurization sequence leading up to hatch opening and lunar surface egress. These pages represent the operational heart of lunar surface activity, the final checks between the astronauts' safety and the vacuum of the Moon. They are among the most evocative pages in the Apollo documentation works, illustrating the procedural rigor that defined human lunar exploration.
Apollo 17 marked the final Apollo lunar mission and the last time humans set foot on the Moon. Flown checklist pages from the mission are rare and highly desirable, particularly those directly related to EVA and bearing flight data dates consistent with the pre-mission documentation cycle.
