Description

Charlie Duke Signed Large Apollo 1 Crew Photo with Comments about Astronaut Safety. A 16" x 20" glossy B&W photo of the burnt-out Apollo 1 spacecraft. Duke has written in silver felt tip: "After the tragic Apollo I fire on the launch pad that killed Grissom, White and Chaffee in January 1967, Stu and I were assigned to represent the astronaut office on the emergency egress escape team. Two escape routes were developed. One was to exit the spacecraft, run to the pad elevator, take it to the bottom of the pad, exit and run through a shower, then jump into a slide tube, then run into the blast room. There the crew could survive an explosion for 30 days! Charlie Duke / Apollo 16/ Moonwalker". Very fine.
