Gene Cernan Assigned A7L Space Suit I/TMG Connector Cover, Signed and Certified. An A7L space suit I/TMG connector cover measuring approximately 21.5" x 20". The Beta cloth constructed cover bears a "Cernan" nametag and ILC tag reading: "Item I/TMG Connector Cover/ Part No. A7L-201109-04/ Size E Cernan/ Serial No. 260, Date 6/69, Contract No. NAS 9-6100 (NASA), ILC Industries, Inc." The outer edges feature both Velcro straps and metal snap buttons used to secure to the A7L Apollo spacesuit. These covers were developed to protect connections on the torso area for things such as oxygen and electrical supplies from lunar dust and thermal variance while on the lunar surface. While they were used in training for lunar landing missions, the covers were deemed cumbersome during exercises. Further testing revealed that the thermal protection was not as much of a concern as previously anticipated, and NASA determined they were not required. Cernan has signed in black felt tip directly below his nametag: "Gene Cernan/ Apollo X". This is an excellent opportunity to obtain a genuine piece of a spacesuit designed for the Apollo program for one of the most popular astronauts of American spaceflight.
