Description

Ex. Alan Bean
"Something with a good beat"

Skylab II (SL-3): Alan Bean's Flown Music Cassette Tape in Framed Display with Crew-Signed Beta Cloth, Directly from His Family Collection, with Certificate of Authenticity. If you were going to spend nearly two full months in a space station without WiFi or a modern MP3 device, what would you do? Forty years ago, the Skylab astronauts recorded their favorite songs onto cassettes and sent them up on the initial Skylab I launch so they would have musical entertainment when they got there. Here is one of Alan Bean's cassettes. The 60-minute Extended Range cassette has a handwritten title: "Skylab - A.B./ Cassette #1". It is matted in a handsome 12.5" x 19.5" frame beneath a 7" x 9" Beta cloth mission insignia patch signed by the three-man crew: "Alan Bean", "Owen Garriott", and "Jack Lousma". A very attractive and interesting display. A CD copy of the songs on this tape will be included. Very fine.

Included with this lot is a COA on Alan Bean's letterhead signed by daughter and Estate Executor Amy Sue Bean stating that this cassette flew on the mission and was recorded by him from his favorite 45RPM early 1970s Country and Pop records. She says that he always said he liked 'something with a good beat.' She also states that this was in her father's possession until his death.
