"The New Nine"
NASA Astronaut Group Two Vintage Photo Signed by All, in Framed
Display. A 9.25" x 6.75" (sight size) glossy B&W photo of
the group, all wearing business suits, standing and kneeling in
front of a table with a curtain behind. Signed in various inks
(left to right, top then bottom row): "Elliot See",
"James A McDivitt", "James Lovell", "Edward H
White", "Thomas P Stafford", "Charles Conrad Jr",
"Frank Borman", "Neil Armstrong", and "John
Young". This was the first new group of astronauts chosen by
NASA after the original "Mercury Seven." The Gemini Program had
been announced and this second group was chosen to face new and
more technical challenges; four of the nine had advanced
engineering degrees. Photo double matted and professionally framed
to an overall 14" x 12". Minor dings on frame and a few small
creases on photo; signatures are low in contrast due to the dark
areas they were signed against. Overall very good but still quite
rare and desirable.This is an amazing group of American heroes and includes the first man on the moon (three moonwalkers total), the first American to walk in space, the commanders of seven (of ten manned) Gemini missions, and the commanders of seven (of eleven manned) Apollo missions. The "New Nine" signed very few items as a group due to their busy schedules and, as Eliot See died in an early-1966 training accident, none could be obtained after that.
