Description

Apollo 11 Training-Used "CSM TEC" Star Chart Originally from the Personal Collection of Astronaut John Young, Signed and Certified, in Framed Display. Degree-divided on all four edges with hour divisions on the top and bottom, this 16" x 8" black chart on film with white printing is titled "CSM TEC STAR CHART (B)/ LAUNCH JULY 18". It was designed to be used in the command module for the trip home, known as the trans-earth coast. The Sun, Earth, Venus, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, and the moon are all portrayed by colored dots in order to stand out against the star field. The outlines of a number of constellations are shown and many stars are named and numbered, including the stars named (backwards) for the crew of the ill-fated Apollo 1: "DNOCES" (Edward White the Second), REGOR (Roger Chaffee), and "NAVI" (Ivan "Gus" Grissom), Young has signed in silver on the front in the upper right corner: "Used For Apollo 11 Training/ John W. Young". Museum-quality framed to an overall 25" x 17". Excellent.
