Description

Apollo 14 Flown State Flag of Arizona as Presented at the National Governor's Conference at Houston in 1972, in Framed Display with Unflown Patch. A 5.75" x 4.25" flag of Arizona mounted to a certificate with a 4" x 3.5" embroidered mission insignia patch along with the facsimile signatures of the crew and the statement: "This Flag Was Carried To The Moon By The Crew Of Apollo 14". Only the third such Arizona flown flag Heritage has offered. Framed to an overall 12.5" x 15.5". Flag and certificate excellent, frame quite worn.

The state flag of Arizona was officially adopted on February 17, 1917. Designed by Colonel Charles W. Harris, the flag features 13 rays of red and yellow at the top, symbolizing the original 13 colonies and the colors of the Spanish flag, reflecting Arizona's historical ties to Spain. The copper star in the center represents Arizona's rich copper mining industry, a major driver of its economy. The bottom half of the flag is blue, the same shade as the U.S. flag, symbolizing liberty. Despite initial controversy over its design, the flag has since become a well-recognized symbol of Arizona's unique history and identity. From the Family Collection of Jacques Bracke.
