Description

Mercury-Atlas 6 Friendship 7 Flown Atlas 109D Rocket Fragment with Personalized Business Card Signed by John Glenn, Directly from the Estate of NASA Legend Chris Kraft, with Certificate of Authenticity. A bent and partially discolored piece of metal, 1.5" x .75" overall, from the Atlas rocket that launched John Glenn into the history books on February 20, 1962. The flown fragment is sealed in Lucite, 4.5" x 5" x 0.5", with a plaque that reads: "This Material Was Unexpectedly Recovered In Africa From Atlas 109 D, Which Boosted John Glenn Into Orbit." There is a 3.25" x 1.5" business card directly below the metal of Glenn's that is signed: "Best regards to/ Chris Kraft-/ J H Glenn, Jr.". Fragments such as this are not common, and the fact that Glenn personalized it directly to Kraft adds a level of uniqueness. A wonderful Kraft memento from the very early days of NASA. This item was kept in the west bookshelf of Kraft's home office. Very fine.
