Description
Apollo 8 Flown American Flag on a Signed Presentation Certificate to Legendary NASA Photographer John Holland. A 5.75" x 3.875" silk U.S. flag mounted to a 10" x 12" certificate bearing a small color crew photo and signed as follows: "To John Holland, Many thanks for the great photo work on Apollo 8/ Frank Borman" and "James Lovell". The Bill Anders signature is an autopen. A great memento from mankind's first trip to the moon. Our first offering of a flown flag from this mission in four years. There is normal glue bleedthrough at the corners of the flag, but the certificate is clean and bright with great ink signatures. Very fine.John W. Holland served as NASA's photographic chief during a crucial period in space exploration. Before joining NASA in 1962, he worked in commercial photography and held positions at naval and army facilities. At NASA, Holland became Chief of the Technical Laboratory Branch in the Photographic Division, where he played a key role in establishing the Photographic Technology Laboratory (PTL). This facility was responsible for processing and developing critical film and images from space missions, including the historic Apollo lunar landings. Holland's expertise was instrumental in preserving and sharing the visual record of NASA's early human spaceflight programs, including Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo.
