Description
Official Soviet world record claims for First Woman Spaceflight, made to the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI)
Vostok 6: Records File on the First in the World Space
Flight by USSR Woman-Citizen Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova In
The "Vostok-6" Spaceship, June 16-19, 1963, Signed by
Valentina Tereshkova. (Moscow: The USSR Aero Sports Federation,
1963). A 9" x 12" book bound in light blue leatherette,
gilt-lettered in both Russian and English, with the embossed logo
of the Central Aero Club, inside covers in silk moiré. Printed on
heavy cream stock, each page within a decorative border. Text in
Russian. Twenty-nine numbered pages including official charts and
graphs, plus title page and numerous additional pages featuring
mostly color photos mounted, recto only. Signed by numerous Soviet
officials and twice by Tereshkova. A stapled multi-page document
summarizes the contents with a full transcription of Tereshkova's
report. Excellent.A superb and exceedingly rare official record dossier prepared by Soviet sporting and aerospace authorities to certify and document the world records set by cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova, who on June 16-19, 1963, became the first woman in history to fly in space, piloting Vostok-6. Included is a record summary card listing the established world records for duration, altitude, and distance of orbital flight by a woman, signed by the Sports Commissioner of the USSR Aero Sports Federation, I. G. Borisenko. Technical data and charts, certification sheets describing the vehicle type, the spacecraft, engine specifications all included.
Such record files were typically retained by official bodies or presented to the cosmonaut, not distributed publicly. Examples specific to Vostok-6 are exceptionally rare, with no known public sales documented in Western auctions. Comparable USSR Aero Sports Federation record books for Gagarin and Titov flights are recorded only in Russian museum collections.
This is an officially sanctioned artifact commemorating the first woman's spaceflight, produced at the highest level of Soviet aerospace administration. It documents both the technical parameters of Vostok-6 and the formal recognition of Tereshkova's world records, a cornerstone of 20th-century space history. From an important collection of Soviet-era Space history
