Description

Theodore "Dutch" Van Kirk Original Diagram of the Enola Gay Air Escape Plan for the Hiroshima Atomic Mission. On a sheet of paper measuring 8.5" x 11". Drawn in black ball point pen and pencil; dated "6 Aug. 1945", but likely done much later. Van Kirk carefully diagrams the target, and illustrates both a right and left turn option. The illustration of the right turn includes details at what points first and second chock waves were felt. Van Kirk adds all pertinent details of the flight: "Altitude - 30060 ft. / True Air Speed - 285 knots / Bomb detonation - 1890 ft. / Above Hiroshima - 43 seconds after release / Bank of turns - 60°." Signed with his rank: "Major Dutch Van Kirk / Navigator - Enola Gay / Hiroshima - 6 Aug. 1945."
Condition: Very clean and bright paper.
