Description

Robert Browning Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 4.25" x 6.25" (sight), [England], March 15, 1889. Addressed to a Mrs. [Augusta Charlotte] Freshfield, the poet apologizes for not answering an invitation, in part: "I cannot believe I am under a delusion in saying I answered your kind letter at once accepting its invitation with great pleasure. . . . If I did really forget - which I cannot think - pray forgive and forget too! In any case, I think be happy to hear you [illegible] from your own lips on the 31st." Double matted with a 3" x 4.5" photograph of the poet and framed to an overall size of 14" x 12".

Browning (1812-1889) traveled extensively later in life. He died nine months after writing this letter. From the Estate of Rod McKuen.

Condition: Scattered spots of foxing; else fine.
