Description
Franklin D. Roosevelt: Electric Desk Clock and Penholder. 13" x 5.25" x 4.25" high. The leather clock bears the seal of the President of the United States on the top. According to an unsigned note, the clock/penholder, used by FDR in the executive office at the White House and was later used aboard the U.S.S. Williamsburg, was obtained by [Chief Boatswain] J. H. Kevers. An engraved plaque on the underside of the clock reads, "President F. D. Roosevelt / U.S.S. Potomac / 1936 to 1940". Kevers was assigned to the presidential yacht detail, serving on both the Potomac and the Williamsburg. The leather clock case was made by Arthur Hertzberg & Craftsmen. The clock works were made by the Pennwood Electric Company of Pittsburgh, founded in the early 1930s, and was one of the first clockmakers to market a digital clock. Minor surface scratches and tape residue in the back, else fine.Auction Info
