Description

Roosevelt & Fairbanks: A Most Unusual 1" Quadragate Pinback. We have never encountered this red, white, blue, and gold design before. Atypically, it positions Roosevelt on the right with Lincoln above and James Monroe below. Monroe certainly seems an odd choice, as he was an icon of the Democratic Party, not of Roosevelt's Republicans. Perhaps the strange button was intended for distribution in Monroe's home state of Virginia. The red portions are actually an unusual reddish orange shade, a color to which reds on buttons of this era sometimes tended to fade. However in this case, the color seems as intended. Condition is basically excellent. A rim chip at 9:30 is just barely visible from the front, and there are several light marks below and to the left of Fairbanks. However, overall appearance qualifies this example even for the condition conscious collector, particularly considering its uniqueness and distinctive design.
