Description
Zachary Taylor: Personally-owned Pocket Watch. President Zachary Taylor owned this watch which has his initials, "Z.T.", engraved on the back cover. It passed to his youngest daughter, Ann Mackall Taylor and her husband, Richard Crooke Wood. It is a rack lever fuseé open face watch in a sterling pair case with bull's-eye crystal. It has an enamel dial with Roman numerals and a gold spade hour hand (the minute hand being a replacement). It was manufactured by Robert Roskell of Liverpool with a gilt full plate engraved #32623. The watch is slightly loose inside the outer case, but this is typical as space was allowed for the insertion of watch papers (none present). The original key is included. The watch is currently not running. We will include a Letter of Provenance from the consignor detailing its line of ownership.Auction Info
