Description
[Napoleon Bonaparte]. Autographs by Military Commanders Under Napoleon. Includes:Édouard Mortier, Duke of Trévise Letter Signed. One page, 7.75" x 9.5"; no place; June 30, 1807. A letter in French, untranslated. Signed "Ed. Mortier" at the conclusion. Matted and framed with an engraving of Mortier to an overall size of 22.25" x 16.5". Not examined out of the frame.
Mortier was given command of the VIII Corps in 1806 and served in the Friedland campaign, the siege of Stralsund, and the siege of Kolberg. Napoleon made him Duke of Treviso in 1808 for his military service.
Jean-de-Dieu Soult Letter Signed. One page, 7.5" x 9.25"; "23 pluviose" in the seventh year of the Republic. A letter in French, untranslated. Signed "Soult" adding his paraph at the conclusion. Matted and framed with an engraving of Soult to an overall size of 21.5" x 16.25". Not examined out of the frame.
Soult distinguished himself in many battles and was rewarded by Napoleon when he was made one of his first Marshals of the Empire. He would later become Prime Minister of France serving from 1840 until 1847.
Condition: Mortier letter has light soiling at lower right, and irregular margin at left. Soult letter has a pencil annotation at the lower right and light soiling throughout. Both frames have wear, but no visible defects.
