Description

Henry Knox Letter Signed. One page, 8" x 12.5"; "War Office"; February 23, 1786. A letter to Clement Biddle anticipating raising and supplying troops in Pennsylvania. In part: "...the recruiting service for raising the remainder of the quota of Pennsylvania troops will commence on the first of March next... I request you to make the necessary arrangements for supplying these troops with rations in the same manner and on the same terms as to those you supplied last fall..." At the time, Knox was serving as the Secretary of War and was responsible for public military stores, disposition of troops, frontier defense, and the administration of military bounty land.

Condition: Usual mail folds and age toning. Knox's signature is a bit smudged at the "x". Mounting remnants on verso along the right edge. Tiny separations occurring at the margins at the folds.
