More Information: Albert Einstein (1879-1955) was the German-born theoretical physicist responsible for the renowned Theory of Relativity. He published his first paper on the theory in 1905 while he was clerking in the Swiss Patent Office. He won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1921, however, due to the anti-Semitic powers rising in Europe, he took a position with the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton, New Jersey in 1933 and applied for American citizenship two years later. Einstein was also an influential humanist who was outspoken about many ethical and social causes. His work was paramount to shaping the atomic age.
