Description

Franklin Pierce and Jefferson Davis Military Appointment Signed. One partially printed page of vellum., 14.25" x 17.5", City of Washington; March 25, 1853. The document appoints "Albemarle Cady...Major in the Sixth Regiment of Infantry in the service of the United States." Countersigned by Jefferson Davis as Secretary of War, with handsome engraved military and patriotic vignettes at the top and bottom margins. Paper seal remains intact at the upper left, along with docketing at the top left corner. Docketing contains signature of Adjunct General Samuel Cooper who would later be promoted to full general in the Confederate Army. COA from Edward N. Bomsey Autographs is included with this lot.

Condition: Smoothed folds with some light wrinkling and corner wear. Minute foxing.
