Description
Two Autograph Letters Signed and One Document Signed from Presidents Millard Fillmore, Franklin Pierce and Chester Arthur. Includes:Franklin Pierce Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 8" x 9.5", Concord; November 28, 1846. Addressed to Senator Charles G. Atherton from New Hampshire. It reads in part: "...Will you present the inclosed to the Secy of the Navy. It would gratify me much if the son of the late Capt Ridgeway can have the appointment conferred upon him solicited by his mother. He was a fine manly boy when he left here and...no doubt would make a valuable Officer." Signed, "Franklin Pierce."
Millard Filmore Autograph Letter Signed. One page of a bifolium, 5" x 8", Buffalo, July 21, 1862. Addressed to an unknown recipient. It reads in part: "I have your favor of the 16 th asking my permission to publish my address to an 'Buffalo Historical Society' in one of the early members of the Historical Magazine, which Permission is most cheerfully given..." Signed, "Millard Fillmore."
[Civil War]. Chester Arthur Document Signed. One page, 7.75" x 9.75", Albany; September 23, 1862. Special Order No. 629 assigning Lieut. Colonel Henry P. Casey, quarter Master of the 6th Division for duty in the Department of the Quarter Master General at New York city as Acting Deputy Quarter Master General. Signed, "C. A. Arthur / Qr Mr Genl."
Condition: Pierce letter had several closed tears that have been repaired on verso with tape. Fillmore letter has two areas of dried residue with paper attachment on verso and a uniform block of toning on recto which indicate previous mounting. All lightly rubbed and toned with smoothed folds.
