Description

George S. Patton Signed Appointment. Partially printed page, 9 x 7 ½ inches; Fort Myer, Virginia; July 15, 1939. Document appointing Jack Richard Toothman to the rank of corporal "during the period of the Citizens' Military Training Camp." The document is engrossed in type and signed, "G S Patton Jr."

Patton was serving as commander of the Third Cavalry at Fort Myer when he signed this appointment. It was during this time that he met George C. Marshall, who was so impressed with him that he considered him a prime candidate for promotion to general. Patton would remain a colonel, finally becoming a general during World War II.

The appointment is matted and framed with a limited edition print of Patton by Jody Harmon, two souvenir insignia patches, stars, and a small plaque to an overall size of 29 ½ x 21 inches. Includes a letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA.

Condition: Three vertical folds and age toning. Frame has scattered scuffing and a few chips along the edges. Not examined out of the frame.
