Description

Albert Einstein Typed Letter Signed. One page, 8 1/2 x 11 inches; Nassau Point, Peconic; June 18, 1938. Einstein writes to a Mrs. Kohn offering his assistance (in German): "Since I happen to live a a bit far from New York at present I am sending you a friendly welcome [by mail]. I have written on your behalf to Mrs. Razowsky who is director of the National Coordianting [sic] Committee in Aid for German Refugees (165 West 46th Str.) and please do feel free to come to me directly without hesitating if I can be of any help." Signed, "A. Einstein."

It is documented that Einstein was involved in helping numerous Jewish refugees during this period, both through personal advocacy and financial support. Although we cannot identify Mrs. Kohn specifically, this letter likely records such an instance.

Condition: Flattened mail folds and age toning.
