Description
Zachary Taylor Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 8 x 10 inches; Cincinnati, Ohio; July 6, 1826. A brief letter to Colonel R. Jones, Adjutant General acknowledging receipt of a "communication of the 15th ultmo which will be duly complied with." Signed, "Z. Taylor Lt. Col." Matted with a small engraving of Taylor to an overall size of 10 ¾ x 16 ¼ inches.Taylor was commissioned an officer in the U.S. Army in 1808, and rapidly made his way through the ranks. He would earn the nickname "Old Rough and Ready" during the Second Seminole War; and his defeat of Mexican troops at Palo Alto and Resaca de la Palma during the Mexican War would vault him to the presidency in the 1848 election.
Condition: Bright paper with exceptionally bold ink. Letter is affixed to the mat with tape, with a few adhesive stains along the edges on the verso from prior matting.
