Blanche K. Bruce Carte-de-Visite Together with Harper's Weekly Cartoon. Includes: Blanche K. Bruce Carte-de-Visite. 2.5" x 4.25" (sight), no place; circa 1875. Taken by Mathew Brady's studio.Canvassing for Votes Cartoon by R. N. Brooke. 7" x 9.75" (sight), no place; November 2, 1872. A political cartoon published in Harper's Weekly with commentary on the solicitation of black voters across the South in the 1870s. These editorial pieces helped elect men such as Blanche K. Bruce in 1874. He represented the state of Mississippi and was the first African American to serve a full term in the U.S. Senate. The cartoon also illustrates some of the widespread cultural stereotypes during this era. They are matted and framed side-by-side to an overall size of 16.25" x 17.25". Not examined outside of the frame.
Condition: Very gently toned.
