Before his famous thirty-seven-year tenure at The Los Angeles Times, Pulitzer Prize-winning sportswriter, Jim Murray, worked at iconic magazines such as Sports Illustrated and Time. Throughout his career, Murray won the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Associations' Sportswriter of the Year award an unprecedented fourteen times, twelve of which were awarded consecutively. Murray's wide-ranging sports columns were characterized by witty humor and first-person narratives.

Murray was nearly blind and became famous for wearing his glasses with a jeweler's loop, the latter of which is included here. In spite of this affliction, Murray continued to write, submitting a column to The Los Angeles Times the day before he died. Some of his engraved Los Angeles Times letterhead is included in this lot. This typewriter is featured on the cover of one of his most famous books, a copy of which is included. Acquired at auction in 2005, this typewriter was the first inductee into The Collection.
