Description

Thomas Jefferson Four-Languages Ship's Passport Signed "Th. Jefferson" as President. One oversized partially-printed sheet, 20.75" x 16.75", New York, December 9, 1800. This passport, printed in French, Spanish, English, and Dutch authorizes passage of "Joseph Jackson master or commander of the Brig called the Bulia of the burthen 119 37/95 tons or thereabouts . . . bound for Guadaloupe [sic] and laden with Wine, Beef, Oil, Fish, Butter, Shoes, Stationary, Pork, Beans, Flour, Corn, Staves, Shingles, Scantling."
Countersigned by James Madison as Secretary of State. Paper Seal of the United States affixed at the left with red wax seal affixed at bottom left.

Condition: Document has archival reinforcement backing. Light toning at edges and folds. Some paper loss and soiling at top left corner. Small amount of separation and paper loss at horizontal folds.
