Description
Robert E. Lee Carte de Visite Signed "RE Lee." 2.5" x 4", Richmond; circa 1868. A vignette bust portrait of Lee, dressed in civilian clothes. Signed at the bottom margin. With a C.R. Rees & Co., Richmond, 1868 backstamp. Lee was the most celebrated general of the Confederate forces during the Civil War. He spent his post-war life as president of Washington College, now Washington and Lee University.Condition: Edge toning and rounded corners. Minor foxing throughout. Chipping to the top right corner. Signature is slightly faded.
