Description

Major Caleb Huse Receipt for Ammunition Purchased for the Confederate States of America. One partially printed page, 7.5" x 9.5", London; August 5, 1863. A record of a large purchase from the Eley Brothers, Manufacturers of Sporting and Military Ammunition in England. The receipt shows the acquisition of Austrian Rifle cartridges, Ball and Buck Shot cartridges, and Enfield cartridges, for a total of £2455.14. Caleb Huse (1831-1905) served as a Major in the Confederate Army, and worked primarily in the acquisitioning of arms and ammunition for the CSA. He liaised with numerous munition manufacturers throughout Europe, including England, Austria, and Prussia.

Condition: Flattened folds, with minor toning at the edges. Slight ink ghosting from folding. Two small areas of mounting residue on verso.
