First edition, early state (first state of pages [vii], xvi, 246, 280, 403; later state of pages 351-353). Octavo. 574, [2, Appendix] pages. Extensively illustrated throughout. Publisher's three-quarter brown morocco, spine with five raised bands, stamped in brown and lettered in gilt. Marbled endpapers and marbled edges.

Condition: Some wear and scuffing to boards, other edgewear. Scattered foxing and some thumbsoiling throughout. Very good.
